Best Buddies, a groundbreaking nonprofit founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver whose mission is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), is thrilled to announce the 2013 Best Buddies Friendship Walk, which will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the International Plaza at Lake Eola. Specifically at the corner of Eola Drive & Central Avenue.

The Friendship Walk is one of the largest community events of the year and will raise funds and awareness for Best Buddies Central Florida. More than 700 of the organization’s supporters will come together to walk for friendship and the overall enhancement of the lives of people with IDD. Walkers and runners with and without disabilities will enjoy a jam-packed day of fun in the sun.

Best Buddies Central Florida Middle Schools, High Schools, and College chapters will be forming teams and raising donations for the continued success of their chapters and Best Buddies mission. Registration is free and open to the public online at Best Buddies Central Florida invites both corporate and community teams to join in on the festivities.

“This will be a life-changing event for so many in our community,” said Jeff Streep, Best Buddies Advisory Board Chair. “To see people coming together, joining hands with someone who has an intellectual disability is a beautiful sight. We are ready to celebrate friendship and social inclusion, and excited to share our mission with Central Florida.”

The event features a fun, 3 mile walk around Lake Eola. Registration is at 8am and the walk will begin at 9am. Before and after the walk we will have music and dancing, announcements given by our guest emcee Johnny Magic from XL 106.7, an inflatable bouncy house, face-painting and more. Refreshments will also be served.
